Description

In Africa in 1820, young Charley and his mother Theo are enslaved. In Virginia twenty years later, they are owned by kindly plantation owner Hill Carter, who treats his slaves with respect and has taught Charley to be a blacksmith. Carter is dying, however, and his vicious son Houston, the plantation's new overseer, will soon take over the land and the slaves.
